Who We AreRenegade Canines (formally Salis Shepherds) was built on Lindsey's childhood love of dogs and a great admiration of the German Shepherd Dog. The breed was something that totally inthralled me at a very young age and at the age of 20 I decided that I wanted to breed the noble GSD. I immersed myself in learning everything I could about responsible breeding, genetics and breed specific health issues. With my sister by my side we set out to find the bitch of my dreams. In finding my foundation bitch I gained a mentor, a kennel, partner, and a best friend. Janice McGivney-Kieser of McG Shepherds Plus has been my guiding light in the dog world; sharing her 40+ years of knowledge and expertise.
In 2012 I found my other half and my biggest help with the daily operations of the program; Clint. He taught me how to make tough decisions I was avoiding and has made Renegade stronger for the better on a daily basis. He is the inventor and the handyman making any crazy thing that I think will work with no questions asked. In 2013 Clint and I decided that we wanted an “odd ball dog” something not in the program. We decided since Janice had a litter of Australian Shepherds on the way, that would be the breed. One turned into two and two turned into three you get the picture, and our Aussie program was born! In 2015 I sold our beloved Kimber to Jordan Chambers of Bawlistic Blueticks of Washington DC. It was a tough choice but has proven to be one of the best I have ever made. With the sale of Kimber, I found a best friend and a new breed. I have since placed my German Shepherds lines with Jordan and took on the Bluetick Coonhounds. Though Renegade is a show / breeding program our dogs are anything but a program, our dogs are loved family pets. Our dogs are loved and handled daily, spending time with us and our 3 children. We take great pride in our dogs being able to attend parades, kids baseballs games, and educate the public on the breeds. I have made it my life goal to be a better breeder, exhibitor and dog owner. I want people to love my dogs, as much as I do and love their puppies even more. |
Breeding PhilosophyOur belief at Renegade Canines is that producing superiority in a puppy begins with careful consideration in every breeding we undertake. Since there are no perfect dogs, our job, in order to continue in the betterment of each breed is to ensure to the best of our ability, that a planned breeding equates to potential compatibility between the sire and dam and generations behind them, in temperament, structure, type and genetic health.
Since pre-breeding health testing is of the utmost importance; we have stringent requirement of OFA hips and elbows and other breed specific testing before ANY breeding takes place. All of our breeding adults German Shepherds have their hips OFA certified and have been tested for Degenerative Myelopathy. All of our adult breeding Australian Shepherds have their hips OFA certified, have their eyes CERF’d on an annual basis as well as test for MDR1. Our Bluetick Coonhounds have their hips and elbows OFA certified. Our health clearance requirement is a large part of the decision-making process that we go through when considering a breeding. Every litter born at Renegade is home-raised and loved, with careful attention given to their development and socialization, on a day-to-day basis. This includes introduction to children, familiarization with numerous loud and unusual noises, litter box training and crate training, to name a few. Each puppy is temperament tested at seven weeks of age, and at eight weeks evaluated for structure by us using the Avidog APET system. A written guarantee of good health accompanies every puppy when they leave our care. Additionally, we provide a puppy starter kit and a detailed packet containing what and how to feed, a record of current worming and vaccination, pedigree, proof of health clearances and registration on the parents and breed related health clearences, plus invaluable information and tips for raising your new family member. It is of the greatest importance to us that we maintain a support system for all of our puppy homes. We offer detailed instruction in crate training and housebreaking and basic manners. We are always available to answer questions or to help if any problems arise. Our commitment to you is long term. |
